HISTORIC BUILDING TOURS

Home to one of the oldest medical societies in the world, Liverpool Medical Institution traces its origins to the founding of the Liverpool Medical Library in 1779. In 1837, following a campaign by members led by Dr John Rutter, the Library was given a permanent home in the beautiful Grade II* listed neoclassical building situated on the corner of Hope Street and Mount Pleasant.

Steep yourself in 200 years of medical history as you explore the wonderful building, regaled with scenes of old Liverpool. Enjoy the historic collections and rare books in the Library, discover Liverpool's medical pioneers and visit the magnificent Victorian Lecture Theatre. Finish by relaxing with lunch or afternoon tea in the Gallery.
